Feeling the Magic

penabartlett550x250.jpgWhat a special night. This team is a family, and what we have done is a family accomplishment. I can’t say enough about the way this team has responded to adversity all year. Every time we have something go wrong, this team seems to pull closer together. The Red Sox are a great team — we respect them a great deal — so to win a Game 7 against them is a real accomplishment. But we are a team that has been counted out a lot this season. Every time that happens, watch out.

We still have work to do in the World Series, so we’ll celebrate this together, because we are a family. We’ll rest a little bit on Monday, spend time with our families, then get back after it Tuesday.

What a thrill it was to be down on that field tonight after the game with all of our fans cheering us on. All of our fans really mean a lot to us. They are great and we respond to them being there. The World Series is right there in front of us, and it should be fun. This is what you dream about as a kid. Don’t wake me up.penafistpump550x250.jpg

I’m a Saint Louis Cardinals fan, but this year, since my team missed the playoffs, it’s all about the Rays. This team has so much young talent, it’s unreal. Good luck in the World Series, hope you guys win it. And have a big series Pena.

Carlos, congrats on such a HUGE achievement. I watch about 120 games a year and just wanted to let you know that it was very obvious from your first at bat here what a breath of fresh air you have been to this organization. You come to the park everyday happy to be there, and it really showed on the field, even last year when things did not always go our way.

There are many things that can be credited with the teams dramatic turnaround. For me, and what I see, I put you at the top of that list.

Good luck on Wednesday!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I knew you would do it. Tell the guys we are proud of them and whose #1? Tampa Bay Rays!! one more job Carlos. You know what you have to do! Enjoy!!! You deserve it!

CONGRATS CARLOS AND THE RAYS!! I had so much fun watching you guys last night! I am sooo excited for you. Good luck in the series. The Rays will win. It’s destiny!!

If you believe and have faith, anything is possible!! Congratulations Carlos and to the rest of your Tampa Bay family on a great series. Enjoy every moment. You deserve it. Helen and I will be rooting for you so don’t stop here…. 4 more wins!!!!
( Coach )

CONGRATULATIONS!!! WHAT A TEAM! Sorry you didn’t get the win on Saturday when I was there but was so excited that you took care of it on Sunday. I was at the Bucs game and they kept a board up with the score. Everytime the Rays scored the place erupted in cheers. Then after the football game ended they put the game on the big screen so we could see the 8th and 9th inning. It was great. We were sitting ther cheering as if we were at the Rays game. I am so glad that I got to see the ending of the game instead of just listening to it. Everyone around me knew what was going on before they put it on the board and kept asking what was going on since I was the only one in our area that had a radio. Great job!!!!!!!!

YOU GUYS MADE ME CRY MAN, TEARS OF JOY CARLOS YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW BAD THIS TEAM HAD BEEN FOR 9 YEARS OTHER TEAMS WOULD JUST TOY WITH US. FROM THE FIRST TIME I SAW YOU ON FIRST BASE I TOLD MY SON THEY BETTER KEEP HIM AND LET HIM PLAY EVERYDAY , I COULD TELL YOU HAD ALL THE QUALITIES- THANKS FOR DOING THIS BLOG- THANKS FOR SIGNING AUTOGRAPHS AND GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ENJOY THE HELL OUT OF THE WORLD SERIES – DO YOUR DANCE FOR W,S VIEWERS – I KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A GREAT WORLD SERIES.

I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE IT! The only thing I could think about all day was the game. Football didn’t matter, eating didn’t matter, work didn’t matter [even though I was there]. I left work early Saturday to catch the second half of the game at the Trop’ in the hopes of being in on the celebration but having to wait ’til Sunday made it all the sweeter! I had advertised a Champagne toast to the Rays at Backfin after the game Saturday but the time change put it after we were closed so my staff insisted we drank Champagne at the start of the game Sunday and right after we popped it open you scored the first run! My kids are late for school right now but their teacher will have to understand that they are FANS OF THE AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPION TAMPA BAY RAYS!!!!!!!! See you Wednesday at the game.

Thank you so much Carlos, and congratulations on a spectacular win. I cried a couple of tears of joy this morning, looking at the pictures of you guys celebrating. The RAYS are the best team in baseball, and will do well against the Phillies. You are truly an inspiration and have been a crucial part of the Rays getting where they are, this morning, as AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS! Bring on the Phillies!

Hi Carlos! Thanks to you and all the Rays for a terrific baseball season! I feel so lucky to have been able to attend some of the greatest games every played. Last night was the frosting on the cake and I watched it in awe. I gotta admit that I was holding my breath at times but all along knowing that the team would pull it off. I am so happy for the team and I will be routing the Rays through every game of the World Series!
Mary

Thanks for not letting us down. You are a great team and now you will advance to be the Greatest Team.
We are season ticket holders in right field first row section 148 and we are proud to be a part of your success.
Philly’s next, remember they cannot hit the inside pitch. Let all of the pitchers know.

I’m so happy for you guys. Seriously.. Congratulations on everything that you all have done :] i’m glad i was able to go to the game last night. i was with my family who actually came down from Mass to watch it so i tried not to be too over excited around them but yeah.. lol i saw you dancing in the middle of it all xD you’re amazing.

anyway,
again, the team has developed greatly this year and we’re all proud of you guys.
good luck in the world series you AL Champions you. :D

Carlos, I think I speak for most of RedSox Nation when I say, “Congratulations; you guys earned it”. This has been your year from the beginning, very magical; now, I hope you represent the AL in a fine way and win the World Series. Next year will be very different; everyone will be gunning for the new champ from day one and you’ll need to be even better, which you just might be. Like Francona said, the AL East got a lot tougher this year. Go get ‘em.

Oh my goodness…this is too much fun! Way to go on a spectaculor win last night, we were on the edge of our seats all night! I didn’t know if my heart would keep beating…I was so nervous :) So glad to see you and the guys getting what you deserve! You all have so much class and it shows in your game! Can’t wait for Wednesday…I am so proud to say I ahve been a Rays fan from the beginning, it makes these wins so much more sweet! God Bless and Go Rays.

PS take time to enjoy these next few days, it will be a whirwind for sure….hug your wife and little girl just a few extra times this week and all of you enjoy this together!!!

What can I say, Carlos, other than this Cub fan is so happy for you guys! YOU DESERVED TO WIN, AND I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT! You guys were simply awesome. When you won last night, I actually shed a tear, which is something I only do when our Cubs do something good (which isn’t often), but should tell you something. I’ve been a Cub fan all of my life, and you’ve accomplished and given your home fans something that many of us Cub home fans have been waiting decades and decades for and keep waiting for but, alas, nothing materializes. This will be a great WS, and I’m behind you guys all the way. You played like a team and won like a championship family, so here’s wishing you and your teammates (team “family” members) all the good luck in the world to win the big prize. CONGRATULATIONS AL CHAMPIONS AND GO RAYS!

I was on the edge of my seat all the way from California. Once our team (Angels) were out, I’ve been really pulling for your guys and our former guy, Joe Madden. He’s such a great guy!! You guys are so fun to watch. What a huge accomplishment for your team…the entire season and now the playoff victories under your belt. I know you fans are having a great time and just know…many of us Angel fans are pulling for you guys from all the way across the US. Keep playing hard!!! So Cal Mom

CONGRATS CARLOS
people in new england might not watch the world series if the sox are not in it but i know i will. An im sure im not alone in haverhill. We are happy an proud of you. Make HAVERHILL proud.

Congratulations Carlos and the whole Rays team! We watched in Gainesville (had to work so couldn’t get to the game on time from here) and the team had us on the edge of our seats! Everyone came up big as usual, but Garza and Price were absolutely AMAZING! And timely hitting once again! We have tickets for game 2 against the Phillies, so see you on Thursday in the WORLD SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe it? GO RAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Carlos! Thank you man! Thank you and everyone involved in this organization! I’ve had the fortune of seeing so many of these historical moments throughout the season and I feel blessed! I was there in spring training for the bench clearing fracas and saw how you battled back to win that game and I walked away from that park feeling that all the progression I had seen through the last few years had now turned a corner and I drank the kool aid all season with this team. So much so that I got my first tattoo ever… the Rays emblem! This is so special and really something else to be a part of, even if it is from the stands. Sometimes it’s just as good to be a fan as it is to be a player or coach. Nah, probably not!! :)
Take care man and share all our thanks with the everyone! Take it to the Phils!! Go Rays!!

I want to tell you about my dad. We came from Brooklyn and he was an avid Mets fan but became a Rays fan from day one. He used to sit up real close to the TV because he was legally blind, and it was the only way he could see his beloved Rays. He lived for baseball season each year and when he became too ill to go to games, he still never missed them from home. Sadly, he passed away last November, not living to see his Rays make it big. But I’m telling you Carlos He’s got a box seat in Heaven and is cheering you and our team on every minute. If you get a minute in your busy life, look up and give my Dad a wink. You were his favorite. His name was Willie Gilbride. And if he has any pull in Heaven, you guys will go all the way – of course you will anyway because you are the best!

Kathleen

Congrats to First Class Team…led by a first class man Carlos Pena. May all of you and your families enjoy this magical time and HAVE FUN!!! We love you in St. Pete!!!

Cindy

CONGRATS!!! Carlos you all did so great! Well deserved victory. That was the best game I have ever been too, my section didn’t sit the whole game. I lost my voice and couldn’t be happier about it! You had those red sox fans stunned. Garza, wow. Unbelievable, and I am so happy he won it. Price did awesome too, what a game for him! I almost cried, I am so happy for you and your team. Way to shun out all the negativity and all the haters. Keep knocking em’ down Carlos! World Series, here we come! And your fans will be ringin’ their cowbells, as annoying as they are! Have fun like you always do! RAYS ALL THE WAY BABY! American League Champions!!!

Hey Carlos,
As a die hard Red Sox fan, naturally I’m disappointed that my boys didn’t win game 7, but after seeing you guys go crazy celebrating on the field after the game, my husband & I sat back and said, “you know what? Good for them!” You guys were the only team all year that really made us (Red Sox fans) nervous, so I have to tip my hat to you all. Congratulations!

You’re an amazing team and you play a heck of a game. Your victory was well deserved. My husband & I have every confidence that the Rays will do the American League proud. Now go whup some Phillie @$$!!! GO RAYS!!! :)

I have been thinking all morning of something to write to you, Carlos, to convey how awesome this all is. But, it took a phone call from my 5-year-old nephew to humble me. See, he is a Red Sox fan, but he called to congratulate my husband and I for our team making it to the World Series. If the Rays had not won, would I have been so gracious? It took a young child to remind me what this is all about: teaching our young people how to be gracious in winning and losing. My nephew will be rooting for you to win the World Series. Thank you all for your hardwork and dedication this year. We look forward to cheering for you in the World Series. GO RAYS!

Congratulations Carlos!

Although most of us up here in Massachusetts are disappointed that our beloved Sox didn’t win, it is nice to see a kid from Haverhill, MA and Northeastern do well. We will be cheering for you in The World Series. Wishing you all the best!

DG – Groveland, MA

Yo CP,

Wow!…What a game! What an experience! The noise level at the Trop was out of this world. There were people crying, cheering and many were so exhausted they just sat in aha! You guys rock man! I knew you could do it and never doubted the Rays for one moment.

The Sox are a great team and have nothing to be down about. Their players are no doubt some of the best in the world. Dustin Pedroia deserves to be MVP of MLB this year and in my opinion he is currently the best baseball player in the world. However, the best team in the world is our TB Rays!!

Ok, it’s not over yet, so celebrate a bit and then get focused once again for the ultimate prize.

Congrats and be cool!

Raysfan922

Carlos and all of the Rays, congrats on bieng American League Champs! You don’t know how proud all of us Rays fans are and how happy you guys made us. Carlos,

I am and always have been a die hard Red Sox fan. Today I want to congratulate you and the rest of your amazing team. I mentioned I am a Red Sox fan, but I am a baseball fan at heart. You guys put up some incredible numbers and definitely played your hearts out. The Rays were an incredible opponent for the Sox to face and in the end, you were victorious. It was an amazing series to be able to watch (gotta love nail-biters and this series was full of them). At this point I’m happy that you will be representing the AL and want to wish you and your teammates the best of luck against Philadelphia, you guys have earned it!

I moved back to Arizona last fall after two relatively unhappy years in the Tampa Bay area. Even though we lived an hour a way, my wife and I managed to see at least one game in nearly every home series in 2007. Even then, it seemed to me this team could be seriously good, but who would have thought it would happen so soon? I love the story about how well you handled getting cut the last day of spring training in 2007 then (thank you, Greg Norton) getting a second chance and running with it. Congratulations on a great 2008 season I have had to admire from a distance, and thanks for being the heart and soul of what I hope is a great team for years to come. Four more wins–all the way! This is one of my greatest experiences in following baseball for 54 seasons. Thank you, Carlos Pena.

I want to congratulate the Rays and all their fans. From worst to first, wow, what a ride this season! History is calling and I truly hope you can close the deal!

As you can no doubt tell by my nickname, I’m a Dodger fan. I’m a regular over on Inside The Dodgers, and have never wandered over to another teams’ site before. I wanted to make an exception here.

I wanted to let you know that most of us over there are rooting hard for you to take out the Phillies. Not only only because you have a Dodger flavor to your roster and you have a terrific story going with your talented roster, but because the Phillies’ bloggers have a few ‘trolls’ who came over not only to ITD, but to Andre Ethier’s site and spewed some of the most vulgar language this side of the Longshoreman’s Union. To be fair, there were a few very polite and respectful ones too, but they were outnumbered. Get ready for them. Perhaps you won’t experience this particular form of ‘fan support’ if you sweep them, but as soon as they win a game, they’ll be here too. My advice is to ignore them as best you can.

Again, congratulations on your Pennant! Four more to go!!!

Carlos,
From a 53 year member of the Red Sox Nation (Montana Chapter). Congratulations. Though I’m still licking my wounds and thinking about how “our boys” are doing today, I want to take the time to wish you and your Team the best in the World Series. You deserve it. You should be proud. It is rare to see humble, young professional athletes these days, yet the Rays are just that.
Have fun playing the Phillies.
RS in Billings

And I have to say that I’m impressed with the class of the Red Sox fans coming on here to congratulate you! Well done!

I wanted to come over here and congratulate you on a job well done this season, and now so far throughout the playoffs. I too, am a Dodger fan (dodgereric and I tend to come in tandem these days), and I have been watching this team all season long. I happen to teach first grade out in California, and I do baseball geography with them. We have been following all the playoff teams and picking our favorites, and you have been the favorites all along on the American League side. I won’t reiterate what dodgereric said, but the Phillies Phans were pretty bad (not all were), and being a huge Andre Ethier fan, it was really quite disturbing. Anyhow, best of luck, and we will be pulling for you to win the whole thing. All of us on ITD were on pins and needles hoping you would hang on last night and you did – just fabulous!!!! Have a great series, and remember to have fun out there!!!
from California,

Dodger Fan Forever and Ethieraholic!!!

thank you carlos and the rays for an exceptional season and magical post season! last night’s game was incredible. tropicana field was pure energy, and you could feel the momentum that the team had. what you do brings so much joy to so many people. it brings people together for such a good purpose. at the end of the game, red sox fans were hugging our fans and congratulating our team. it was truly respectable. thanks again for the best baseball ever! best of luck facing the phillies, and enjoy the moment when you raise that WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP trophy and bring it home for TAMPA BAY!!!!

Carlos – In years past I enjoyed watching you play with the Tigers and especially the Mud Hens. The joy and commitment you bring to the game is evident (and was much appreciated at the AAA level). Congratulations on your success. Best of luck to you and the Rays in the World Series.

Carlos ~ I want to wish you and your teammates the best of luck against the Phillies. I, like several others today, am a Dodger fan but I do enjoy watching you guys play. It would have been fun if the Dodgers were playing the Rays. Our teams are a lot alike. I’ll be watching the World Series and cheering or the Rays!

I am a long time Cubs fan, and I really hoped it would be Rays vesus Cubs in the world series. The Rays are by far my second favorite. The way you guys defied the odds by making it to the playoffs, and now to the world series, it is awesome. I’m rooting for you Carlos Pena.

Carlos,
Congratulations to a first class ball club. My family has been coming to Tropicana Field for the past six years to root for our home team. This year, however, was magical. Thank you for such a fabulous season. You guys sure deserve to be champions! We will be in the stands on Wednesday night rooting extra loud for our Tampa Bay Rays! We wish you the very best in the 2008 World Series and beyond. GO RAYS!
From,
Dawn, Jim & Noah

Congratulations Carlos,

You should be very proud being the ALCS Champs.
I spoke to you Mom and Dad tonight and told them we are so happy for you. By the way…..were the heck did you pick up the speed going from 1st to home? You were flying!
You came pretty close to knocking out the home plate ump when you pumped your arm after scoring. A great moment!
I’m not sure what you told Price before he started pitching but I’m sure it helped him. What a game. The best team won and up here in Boston there was nothing but praise for the Rays. The best team won and it was nice seeing you celebrate. You deserve it! It’s been a long time coming.
Your hard work and sacrafices over the years finally payed off. I wish you and the RAYS the best in the world series and just keep doing what your doing and you’ll be ok. Giving 110% and picking it up and becoming a team leader has made a positive outcome for the team this year. By the way….what do you call that pre game dance that you do before the game?
I could tell your Parents were glowing tonight even though it was over the phone.
Keep working hard and take the Phillies and bring a championship ring home to your wonderful Family.

Good Luck and God Bless.

All the best,

Jim Harkins

Thank you so much for beating the Red Sox.

A Cleveland Indians Fan

Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful job guys! I was praying hard for you last night; what a game. I must tell you that I haven’t really been a baseball fan since watching the Cincinnati Reds in the late 70’s and the Rays have brought back all the excitement that I felt watching Pete Rose and Johnny Bench back then. I’m so thankful and very proud to be part of a city with such great representation that the Rays bring it. You will go all the way!
Go Rays, Go!

Good luck to the Rays in the World Series! Everyone over at Chavez Ravine is rooting hard for the Rays to pummel the Phillies! We know you guys can do it! Congratulations!

Carlos,

We are so happy for you and your family – this is the best of “Heads Up Baseball!” We will continue to cheer you on. I was at a game in Fenway last year when you hit a home run in the ninth. The crowd was quiet and then I heard your father’s whistle! All our love and we are rooting for you! Karin, Peter, Hannah and Carolyn

Great to see all these fans of all different teams, including the Red Sox, coming here and going for you and the Rays in this World Series. You deserve it, as does everyone on the team. (And long-suffering Rays fans such as myself, of course.)Now it’s time to bring home the trophy. There’s a blog entry I can’t wait to read. Go Rays!Brentonhttp://braverays.mlblogs.com

Carlos,
I was never much of a baseball fan, but the love of my life is. He lives in Tampa and is an avid Yankees fan, but when his beloved Yankees failed to make the playoffs, we started to root for the home team. The last time I got excited about baseball was in ’92 & ’93 when my hometown Toronto Blue Jays made it to the playoffs and went on to win the World Series. Your team reminds me of them a lot. They were a young 10yr. old club when they made it to the World Series, too. I watched game 5 and as much as it was a heartbreaker, game 7 was a thrill. Game 7 was a real nailbiter but what exciting baseball! I was so happy for you guys! I will be flying to Tampa on Fri. to visit my love and it will be a joy to root for the Rays together on Sat. Congratulations on a well deserved win and here’s hoping that like the ’92 Jays, you take it all the way! Count me as your newest fan.

Carlos,
i look forward to your blogs after every game!
congrats to you and the team!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
MLB DRAFT
1ST PICK THIS YEAR
30TH PICK NEXT YEAR!

I’ll be rooting for the Rays!

WOW! After supporting the Rays for ten years it has been absolutely amazing to watch you guys this season! I’ve also loved watching my own kids, as well as the kids at my school get pumped up about the Rays. My youngest daughter Morgan LOVES to go to games. You are by far her favorite player and her jersey number for her fastpitch softball team is 23. I have tons of kids at school who are sporting Rayshawks and wearing shirts every day. They are talking about how this team personifies the character traits they learn about every day–perserverance, courage, responsibility, honor, leadership. Thank you for being such a positive role model for kids! Honestly, at a time when life is just plain crazy, it is a beautiful thing to see that the game of baseball is uniting us and making us slow down to appreciate the moment. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and letting us be a part of this incredible experience! We’ll be there Wednesday! GO RAYS!!!!
